The road surfacing machine (1) has a chassis (2) supporting a machine frame (4) provided with a relatively pivoted working roller (20) extending transverse to the travel direction, an internal combustion engine (32) with a drive take-off shaft (34), providing the drive power for the working roller, coupled to the latter by a mechanical transmission (36). The engine is positioned between the pivot arms (42) for the working roller, the mechanical transmission pivoted about the axis of the drive take-off shaft together with the working roller.
