Non-toxic liquid adhesives contain (A) saccharides (especially 2- or higher-valent) at >=80% of the dry weight, these saccharides being >= 70% made up of polysaccharides (i.e. 10- or higher-valent saccharides); and (B) a small amount of proteins (i.e. 0.5-8, especially 1.7-3.8, % of the dry weight). An independent claim is also included for production of the adhesives by first preparing the saccharide component and then adding sufficient gelatin to bring about hardening.
