<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately carry out image forming operation in a state in which part of a developing unit is out of use. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus provided with a plurality of developing units storing a plurality of developers of colors including black, includes a judging means to judge whether the plurality of developing units are in a state of use or in an out of use state and a control means forbidding the operation of all developing units other than the developing unit storing the black color developer and only operating the developing unit storing the black color developer in a monochrome image forming mode when judgment is made that at least one of the developing units which is other than the developing unit storing the black color developer, has reached an out of use state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
