PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing power consumption of a receiver for a wireless local area network, WLAN. SOLUTION: The receiver having a low power listen mode of operation includes two separate paths (34, 36) in an analog front end, AFE (32). One path includes a low resolution and low power analog to digital converter, ADC (36). The other path includes a high-resolution and high power ADC (34). In listen mode, only the low-resolution ADC (36) is powered and provides inputs to a packet detector (40) for identifying a barker code.
