The dehydrated foodstuff (3) is held within a bag (2), to be mixed with a liquid for consumption, or conversion into an intermediate foodstuff material as a ready meal product (1). The bag has a closure cap (5) screwed on to a thread (6) at its opening (4), where a prescribed volume of liquid can be introduced up to a marked level (7). The liquid and the dry foodstuff are mixed together by squeezing the bag, or applying other external forces. When the contents are ready, they can be poured out of the opening. The bag is of a plastics film which can be boiled, placed in an oven or in a microwave oven.
