PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve recording having required recording density without being affected by a phase error and/or a duty ratio error by using one encoder. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording device comprises an incremental encoder 1 for outputting a pulse train signal by using a slit plate rotated by a medium to be moved; a register 9 for storing a reference cycle for measuring the pulse width of the pulse train signal; a recording timing signal generation means 2 for measuring the time width between the points in time of change in the pulse train signal by using the reference cycle successively called from the register and for generating a trigger pulse having a specified cycle proportional to the measured value each time when the pulse train signal generated after that changes; and a recording control means for starting the counting of the trigger pulse when recording data are inputted and for changing a drive signal supplied to a magnetic head driver corresponding to the recording data each time when the counting value of the trigger pulse reaches a specified value set corresponding to the preset recording density of the recording data.
