PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct cooling type refrigerator which realizes efficient cooling with regard to the overcooling of a refrigerating chamber and the waste consumption of power when a hot food product is inserted near a cooler temperature sensor, and notifies insufficient cooling caused by a failure of the cooler temperature sensor to a user and maintains the cooling state. SOLUTION: The control device of a refrigerator is configured to be installed therein with an inside temperature sensor; start/stop a compressor 8 based on the temperature of a cooler temperature sensor and using the inside temperature sensor; when the cooler temperature sensor has a breakdown, judge a failure using a cooler temperate failure judging means 15; notify this failure to the outside using a notifying means 19; detect the temperature of the inside temperature sensor using an inside temperature detecting means 13; start/stop the compressor 8 using the inside temperature sensor alone, thereby enabling the maintenance of the cooling state inside the refrigerating chamber to some extent until the failure is repaired.
