PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a confidential communication method and communication terminal, capable of preventing leakage of a secret key, with regard to a method of the confidential communication performed among communication terminals and the communication terminal for conducting privacy function communication, using the confidential communication method. SOLUTION: Before performing the confidential communication, an impulse response signal is received beforehand from the communication terminal, where the confidential communication is to be performed and a secret key is created, on the basis of the impulse response signal. The impulse response signal has specific properties because it corresponds to a propagation property specific to a signal transmission path between the communication terminals. Because of the symmetry of the propagation path property, an identical impulse response signal is received by the other party communication terminal too. By creating the secret key corresponding to the impulse signal, identical secret key is created both in the communication terminal, on the transmitting side and the communication terminal on the receiving side. Thus, it becomes unnecessary to perform transmission and reception of the secret key and thus leakage of the secret key can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
