PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a change in hue due to a light transmittance control of a physical element with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: An optical element 1 for limiting light of not less than a prescribed wavelength is arranged for the physical element 20 such as a liquid crystal whose light transmittance is controllable. Such the light is limited by the optical element 1, that is, light on a long wavelength side longer than a wavelength corresponding to the wavelength shifting from a wavelength area having weak wavelength dependency to a wavelength area having strong wavelength dependency with reference to spectral characteristics of the physical element 20. Regarding the light from an object, the light of not less than the prescribed wavelength is limited by the optical element 1, and the light transmittance is controlled by the physical element 20, thereafter, the light is made incident on an imaging element 3. Light in the wavelength area where the spectral characteristics of the physical element 20 is stable can be selectively made incident on the imaging element 3 through the optical element 1, then, a color balance is kept nearly constant even in the case of changing the light transmittance of the physical element 20.
