PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display the music number of the CD that is being played, because when a plurality of CDs is recorded on an MD and the music numbers are made continuous regardless of switching CDs while the MD is played. SOLUTION: Recording from a CD to an MD is started by putting it into a recording standby state by an MD manual operating section 4 and by playing the CD by a CD manual operating section. At that time, detection signals are transmitted from a CD controller 7 and the transmitted detection signals are recorded in the MD as "0001-01" data by an MD recording and playing-back section 2 through an MD controller 3. Every time a CD is changed, the signals are received and recorded on the MD so that "CD number-music number" are recorded on the MD. When the MD, that is recorded as indicated above, is played, the "CD number-music number" is displayed on an MD display section 1 and a user understands which music number of which CD number is being played.
