The individual bells (10) of the glockenspiel (1) are of different sizes to give different notes. They are shaped as inverted hollow cones, with constant wall thicknesses from a circular rim to a rounded thickened base. Each base has a handle (14) which may be gripped by a clamp (15) with damping materials. The clamps are fastened to arms (30) on a frame (40) with fastenings (21) for hammers (22). The hammers are manually or automatically operated and have hemispherical heads (23), made of nonmetallic material, set to strike the outside of each bell near the rim.
|
