The transfer device has a circulating transfer band (26) for removing a used plate from the plate cylinder in a first direction and a flat support board (30) above the transfer band, from which a new printing plate is removed upon pivoting the end of the support board in the direction of the transfer band, before rotation of the transfer band in the opposite direction, for feeding the new printing plate to the plate cylinder.
