A pixel detector for neutron radiography, comprising: - a layer of photosensitive material coated with a neutron capture layer, preferably <157>Gd; - an NxM array of photodetector diodes arranged in said layer of photosensitive material; each diodes having a bias potential interface and a diode output interface, the interfaces being connected; - an NxM array of high gain, low noise readout unit cells, comprising an input interface connected to said diode output interface and a high-gain voltage amplifying means comprising a discriminator unit having an upper and/or lower threshold unit, a window logic for handling the upper and lower threshold unit and digital counter unit counting an output signal of the window logic; and - a multiplexing means comprising a row select and a column select circuit allowing to access each readout cell unit individually for controlling the threshold unit in order to generate a lower and/or an upper threshold. <IMAGE>
