Epoxy hardening agents, process for preparing them and use

Hardeners for epoxy resins, comprising amine adducts of an alkoxylated amine/polyepoxide reaction product, an epoxy resin and an epoxy-functional reactive diluent, are free of unreacted amine. Hardeners for epoxy resins comprise: (a) a product obtained by reacting 1 equivalent of an alkoxylated mono-, di- or polyamine having a molecular weight of 148-5000 with 1.4-6 equivalents of a di- or polyepoxide and optionally a monoepoxide and reacting the resulting epoxy-functional adduct with at least a 10% molar excess of a primary mono-, di- or polyamine or secondary di- or polyamine, where the product is substantially free of unreacted amine; (b) an amine-terminal adduct of an epoxy resin and a primary mono-, di- or polyamine or secondary di- or polyamine, where the adduct is substantially free of unreacted amine; and (c) an amine-terminal adduct of an epoxy-functional reactive diluent and a primary mono-, di- or polyamine or secondary di- or polyamine, where the adduct is substantially free of unreacted amine. An Independent claim is also included for a process for producing the hardeners, comprising either: (A) preparing component (a), removing excess amine by distillation and mixing the product with components (b) and (c); (B) preparing component (a), removing excess amine by distillation, mixing the product with components (b) and (c), and removing excess amine by distillation; or (C) mixing the epoxy-functional adduct of (a) with the epoxy resin of (b) and the reactive diluent of (c), reacting the mixture with the amine(s) and removing excess amine by distillation.
