A heat exchanger comprises a tubular shell 2, of low thermal conductivity material, having within it a plurality of heat transfer members 14 of high thermal conductivity material, alternating with annular spacers 13 forming inner and outer fluid flow channels 3, 4. Each heat transfer member shown is in the form of a circular disc having a plurality of perforations 18 for the passage of fluid. The partition wall between the channels 3, 4 is formed by the spacers 13 which may be of copper-clad phenolic material, the spacers being held in coaxial relationship with the shell 2 by at least three projections 21. Input and output tubes are provided for each channel, the input and output tubes 5 for the channel 4 each having an enlarged resilient member 6 providing an axial compressive force to maintain the members 14 and spacers 13 in fluid tight relationship, the members 14 and spacers 13 being slidable within the shell 2. Concentric annular spacers may be used to provide three or more fluid flow channels.
