Safety device for working on top of an elevator car

In a safety device for working on top of an elevator car, a detection plate which is capable of moving upwardly by being pushed from a lower position is suspended in a hoistway. The detection plate is disposed between the driving machine and the car to allow maintenance operations from the top of the car. A buffer is attached to the bottom surface of the detection plate. A plurality of detecting switches detect the upward movement of the detection plate. When at least one of the detecting switches is operated by the upward movement of the detection plate, the raising of the car is stopped by a stop circuit.
