<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup that can handle light having three wavelengths and be miniaturized. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup comprises one objective lens 1 for condensing light to a recording medium; a carriage 21 that has a lens actuator 10 and is movably supported in a direction for crossing the tracks of the recording medium; and three light-emitting elements 31, 51, 71 for emitting three light beams having different wavelengths emitted to the recording medium through the objective lens 1. In the optical pickup, there are provided: refraction optical means 14, 15 for synthesizing and/or separating the first light, the second light, and the third light by utilizing difference in a refractive index caused by the difference in the wavelength with the three light beams whose wavelengths are different as the first light, the second light, and the third light in order of shorter wavelength; and a diffraction optical element 18 for synthesizing and/or separating the second light and the third light by utilizing the difference in diffraction resulting from the difference in the wavelength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
