PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module manufacturing method that aligns an optical axis without operating an optical module. SOLUTION: Non-coherent light from a reflectometer 32 is made incident to a PD preamplifier module 26, with the intensity of the reflected light monitored to align optical axes. In the reflectometer 32, a four-terminal optical coupler is installed, with the non-coherent light branched to an optical module side and to a reference optical axis side provided inside the reflectometer 32. The light guided to the reference optical axis side is made incident to a reference mirror on the reference optical axis, producing reflection in accordance with the position of the reference mirror. On the other hand, the light guided to the optical module side also produces reflection on the discontinuous boundary surface of the refractive index between components. By detecting the sum of these reflected light intensities, a comparison is made between the index discontinuous boundary surface position on the optical module side and the reference mirror position on the reference optical axis side.
