摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high contrast display with little light leakage even in an initial alignment state, in a vertical alignment mode liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a vertical alignment mode liquid crystal layer 50 interposed between a pair of substrates 10, 25, and is characterized by having electrodes 9, 31 respectively disposed on the liquid crystal layer 50 side of the pair of substrates 10, 25, and on the other hand, by having protrusion parts 48, 42 composed of a dielectric in the form of protruding toward the liquid crystal layer 50 on the liquid crystal layer 50 side of the electrodes 9, 31, and at the same time, and by having at least a part of skirt portions of the protrusion parts 48, 42 covered with dielectric films 49, 41 with film surfaces nearly parallel to substrate inner surfaces wherein the dielectric constant of the dielectric films 49, 41 are different from that of the protrusion parts 48, 42.
