PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an active night vision system to adapt a field of vision to vehicle speed or direction. SOLUTION: A vision system 10 for a vehicle includes a light source 14 generating an illumination beam 60, a light receiving device 20 having a pixel array responding at least to a reflecting portion of the illumination beam 60 and capturing an image corresponding to a first horizontal field of view (FOV) angle, and a controller 11 connected to the light source and the light receiving device. The controller 11 selects one of images as a nonlinear function of the vehicle speed to receive a vehicle speed input, respond thereto and generate a second horizontal FOV angle for display to a vehicle driver.
