A connector for printed circuit boards comprises a body 13 with bores 19 extending therethrough between a rear terminal-receiving face 23 and a front face 21 which receives a circuit board 35 in a slot intersecting bores 19. Contact springs 15 are each longitudinally held in a bore 19 between forward slot-defining stops 77, 79 and a rearward projection 85 and separate plug-in wire terminals 17 are inserted between the bore walls and springs 15, thereby increasing the contact pressure on board contact surfaces 37. Terminals 17 may be inserted and removed from the rear while board 35 is in position, so avoiding wear on surfaces 37, and springs 15 are also insertable and retractable regardless of board 35. Each spring 15 is bent as shown to provide upper and lower contact legs 57, 63 terminating in free ends 65, 67 and is located laterally by opposed raised portions on the bore side walls forward of projection 85. The terminal 17 is L-shaped, with arms 103, 105, the arm 103 pressing spring 15 on to board surface 37 and having a struckup detent 115 which engages a shoulder 117 of bore 19. Suitable materials for the contact springs 15, terminals 17 and connector body 13 are respectively beryllium copper, cartridge brass, and diallyl phthalate. Individual bores in the connector may be blocked off by a U- shaped wire key (Fig. 7, not shown) passing across the slot and through the top and bottom parts of a bore 19 and co-operating with a mating slot in the board 35 to polarize the connector.
