A method of extraction of organic walled microfossils from a sample comprises suspending the cleaned sample in a liquid of density between 1.8 - 2.5 to form a suspension of the sample, and centrifuging the liquid suspension to separate the microfossils from the centrifuged liquid. In a related method, the precursory steps of cleaning, dispersing, deflocculating, separating, descaling, degreasing, and further separation may be incorporated. The method may comprise multiple centrifuging steps, interspersed with other processing steps as shown by the process diagram in fig. 1.
