The present invention relates to a method for restoring a connection (1-4) in a telecommunication network provided with a management plane, a control plane and a transport plane, wherein a nominal path (1,2,3,4) corresponds to said connection (1-4); the method comprises the steps of : a) detecting and localizing a fault (F) within the network affecting said connection (1-4), b) identifying an alternative path (1,2,5,3,4) able to recover from said fault (F), c) replacing the nominal path (1,2,3,4) with the alternative path (1,2,5,3,4) in the transport plane for realizing said connection (1-4); in order to carry out step c), path segments (2-3) comprised in the nominal path but not in the alternative path are deleted in the transport plane, path segments (2-5,5-3) comprised in the alternative path but not in the nominal path are provisioned in the transport plane, and path segments (1-2,3-4) comprised in the nominal path and in the alternative path are maintained in the transport plane. <IMAGE>
