The machine has a machine stand (2) with a vertical spindle head (10) displaced in coordinate directions having a tool spindle (11) for selective reception of a milling or turning tool, a separation device for transverse separation of the rod material into individual workpieces and a chuck device (21) at the side of the machining station, with a workpiece chuck (22) having a horizontal coordinate axis, coupled to a rotary drive. The spindle head is pivoted at the front about an axis perpendicular to the workpiece chuck axis and mounted on a carriage (6) displaced parallel to the latter, the chuck device mounted on a console (18) displaced in the vertical direction.
