1,020,157. Baling machines. L. B. SMITH Aug. 23, 1963, No. 33503/63. Heading B5F. In a centrifuge, e.g. for baling fibres, highspeed stresses are minimized by making an outer shell portion 16 freely expansible under centrifugal force relative to a radial drive part 14. In Fig. 2 (not shown) drive is transmitted from 14 to 16 by a series of pins 19 extending radially into openings 21 in the shell portion 16. The pins allow unimpeded expansion of the shell 16 and maintain the parts 14 and 16 coaxial. A removable closure member 23 is held in place by spring-biased pins 24 engaging in an annular groove in the inner surface of the shell. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the centrifuge has bearings at both ends. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the drive pins 37 extend into slots 33 which extend alternately longitudinally and circumferentially. In Fig. 9 (not shown) the shell 16 is of smaller diameter than the part 14. Figs. 10 to 12 (not shown) show a further modification having splined connections between the radial and shell portions. |
