PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical parking facility capable of carrying out the movement of an empty pallet for ensuring a temporary place within a short time and, at the same time, also simplifying a mechanism therefor and its driving method. SOLUTION: A lower step pallet storing shelf 22 used for a temporary storing shelf of the empty pallet 2 and an upper stage step pallet storing shelf 21 used for an empty space 23 lie between the liftable pallets storing shelves 21 and 22 of two up and down stages and, at the same time, the empty space 23 can be used for any of the temporary storing shelf of the empty pallet 2, a temporary storing shelf for a real vehicle pallet 2A or a usual storing shelf of the real vehicle pallet 2A. Accordingly, the upper stage 21 can be used for the temporary storing shelf or a real vehicle storing shelf by storing the empty pallet 2 in the pallet storing shelf 22, a lift 7 and a truck 3 can be driven in parallel, and the vehicle can efficiently enter and leave the garage within a short time.
