PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic gear change operating device for a vehicle which can be miniaturized by reducing the width dimension in the rocking in the longitudinal direction and in a tilting mechanism in the lateral direction of a shift lever, and at the same time, can increase the degree of freedom for the arrangement position of a wire bracket. SOLUTION: This automatic gear change operating device for a vehicle has a pivot shaft 4 which can rock the shift lever 1 in the longitudinal direction, and at the same time, for which an opening section K2 for passing the shift lever 1 is formed, a supporting pin 6 which can tilt the shift lever 1 in the lateral direction, and a wire engaging section 5b with which a wire for operating an automatic transmission at the time of an automatic mode is engaged. The automatic gear change operating device is equipped with the wire bracket 5 which is not interlocked with the rocking motion by separating from the shift lever 1 when the shift lever 1 is tilted. The wire bracket 5 is arranged in a manner to rotatably cover the pivot shaft 4 while having a width dimension T2 which is approximately equal to the longitudinal dimension T1 of the pivot shaft 4.
