A compound (III) is obtained by reacting a compound (I) with a compound (II); the compound (III) is reacted with a compound (IX) to thereby obtain a compound (VIII); and then the compound (VIII) is deblocked into a compound (XII) preferably by an enzyme reaction. The invention provides advantageous processes for the production of pyrimidine derivatives useful as enzyme inhibitors and intermediates for the synthesis of the derivatives.
