<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spatial light modulating panel capable of making the outside of an image display area on a screen sufficiently black (dark), in a liquid crystal image display apparatus using a liquid crystal panel. <P>SOLUTION: The panel is provided with a liquid crystal display element 15, and a light shielding plate 22 having an opening part 21 corresponding to an effective pixel area for the liquid crystal display element 15, and for shielding unnecessary illuminating light emitted outside the effective pixel area by the edge part of the opening part 21. Regarding the light shielding plate 22, the edge part of the opening part 21 on the side opposite to the side facing the liquid crystal display element 15 is tapered toward the opening part 21 in a direction coming close to the liquid crystal display element 15. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
