PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a period of time to obtain focus by avoiding an erroneous operation of a TV-AF control. SOLUTION: This imaging apparatus is provided with an imaging device 106 for photo-electric conversion of an imaged object formed by an imaging optical system including a focus lens 105; a first detection means 113 outputting focus evaluation value signals showing a focusing state of the imaging optical system based on the high frequency component of outputting signals of the imaging device; a second detection means 126 outputting detection signals different from the focus evaluation value signals; and a control means 114 performing a first processing for obtaining information for detecting focusing position of the focus lens based on the focus evaluation value signals. The control means performs a second processing for obtaining information about the focusing position of the focus lens based on the detection signals from the second detection means, and performs different processing corresponding to comparison results of the information obtained by the first processing with the information obtained by the second processing.
