PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified stent relating to stents having a modified bridge design.

SOLUTION: The stent or other intraluminal medical device is constructed by utilizing a plurality of individual, independent self-expanding stent segments which are designed to interconnect when constrained within a delivery sheath and to uncouple upon deployment. The individual segments are releasably connected by a series of bridging elements and receptacles.
