PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To photograph a moving picture by preventing occurrence of smear while avoiding useless power consumption. SOLUTION: The solid-state imaging apparatus is provided with: a CCD 13 on the light receiving face of which PDs (13a) arranged in a matrix form and vertical CCDs (13b) for reading and transferring electric charges obtained by exposing the PDs (13a) are formed; and a control section 22 for allowing a timing generator 14 and a vertical / horizontal driver 15 to drive the CCD 13 by selecting a first imaging mode wherein exposure to the PDs (13a) and reading of the electric charges obtained by the exposure and transfer of the electric charges to the vertical CCDs (13b) are executed and a second imaging mode wherein an electric charge sweep-out period to apply a plurality of vertical shift clocks (XV) to the vertical CCDs (13b) and to sweep out the electric charges is set between the end of the transfer period reading of the electric charges obtained by the exposure to the PDs (13a) and transferring the electric charges to the vertical CCDs (13b) and the start of a succeeding transfer period.
