PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external preparation for the skin, excellent in safety, preservation stability and sense of use, and containing an arbutin. SOLUTION: The arbutin-containing external preparation for the skin contains one or more kinds of compounds selected from a polyaspartic acid or a salt thereof, a polyglutamic acid or a salt thereof, and phytic acid or a salt thereof. As a result, the safe arbutin-containing external preparation for the skin hardly causing discoloration with time in a wide pH range, having the excellent preservation stability, good humectant effects and the good sense of use is provided.
