PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a very small diameter endoscope for supplying illumination light sufficient for observation by increasing mechanical strength in an axial direction, while keeping flexibility. SOLUTION: The very small diameter endoscope is provided with an insertion part 1 including: an objective lens 11; an image fiber bundle 12 for observation for transmitting an image formed by the objective lens 11; and a fiber cable 13 for illumination for supplying the illumination light. The fiber cable 13 for illumination includes illumination cable groups 33a, 33b, having a plurality of unit illumination cables 30 which are obtained by binding a plurality of optical fibers 31 in parallel and coating them with a coating layer 32, and is formed in a cylindrical shape by which the image fiber bundle 12 for observation is freely put through a center part. The unit illumination cables 30 are arranged in a state it is spirally wound around the outer periphery of the image fiber bundle 12 for observation and are not in parallel with the image fiber bundle 12.
