FLUORINATED PENTACENE DERIVATIVES AND PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING THESE

Fluorinated pentacene derivatives, e.g., tetradecafluoropentacene, 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14-hexafluoropentacene, 5, 7, 12, 14-tetrafluoropentacene, and 6, 13-difluoropentacene, which are novel compounds, and intermediates therefor. Also provided are processes for producing fluorinated pentacene derivatives and intermediates therefor.Such a pentacene derivative in which the pentacene skeleton has been fluorinated in desired positions is obtained by introducing oxo, hydroxy, or alkoxy groups into a pentacene skeleton, fluorinating the resultant compound with sulfur tetrafluoride, and then partially defluorinating it with a reducing agent.
