Units of the bar comprise a casing (40) with a plug-in socket (41) for a slat, and two connecting sections (42), one on each side of the socket. One of these sections includes holes (421). The other has pegs (422) which are plugged into holes of an adjacent connecting section. The assembly of units is made up to a total length suiting that of the bed.
