<p>The invention concerns a tool for excavating holes. The tool has first and second excavating shoes (12, 14) which are capable of being held in a fixed position with respect to a support assembly (16). Rotation of said support assembly (16) causes said shoes (12, 14) to excavate a hole. At least one of the shoes (12, 14) is mounted pivotally with respect to the support assembly (16) for movement away from the other shoe for removal of excavated material. Each shoe (12, 14) has a cutting edge (114d) portion having a cutting edge which is angled inwardly with respect to a longitudinal axis of the shoe (12, 14). The angled cutting edge portions of the shoes are such that, when the tool is rotated, the cutting edge portions bite the ground and draw the tool downwardly as it excavates a generally cylindrical hole. The tool can be used for forming holes for fence, posts or for planting bulbs, seedlings or the like.</p> |
