PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus which is equipped with a maintenance mechanism preventing the entrainment of air into an ink chamber. SOLUTION: This image recording apparatus 1 is equipped with: an inkjet head 44 having a nozzle plate 47 wherein a plurality of nozzles 47a for ejecting ink are arranged in a line, and the ink chamber wherein the ink is stored and which communicates with the plurality of nozzles; at least one maintenance suction part 61A which has a larger suction area than the nozzle; a suction-part driving mechanism for relatively moving the suction part along the direction of the arrangement of the nozzles by making the suction area face the nozzle; and a positive-pressure application part for applying positive pressure to the ink chamber. The suction part 61A sucks in the ink near the nozzle along with movement in the direction of the arrangement, while the positive pressure is applied to the ink chamber.
