PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high strength polyester yarn for a machine sewing thread, by which the highly strength polyester yarn having a more excellent quality, especially more excellent strength, dyeability and high speed sewability, than those of conventional yarns can stably be produced. SOLUTION: This method for producing the high strength polyester yarn for the machine sewing thread is characterized by melt-spinning a polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.65 to 0.75 to obtain the undrawn filaments, drawing the undrawn filaments at two steps under specific conditions, and then thermally relax-treating the drawn filaments under specific conditions.
