PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting device and a method thereof which are commonly used for a video interface outlet and an earphone line outlet. SOLUTION: The detecting method commonly used for the video interface outlet and the earphone line outlet comprises (1) a step of enabling the detecting device to detect whether or not a plug is inserted into a four-terminal outlet, and continuing detection if it is not inserted and advancing processing to the next step if it is inserted; and (2) a step of enabling the detecting device to detect whether or not an impedance value of a video output terminal of the four-terminal outlet is larger than a preset value, and controlling the video signal output terminal to output a video signal by the detecting device if it is larger and controlling the video signal output terminal not to output a video signal by the detecting device if it is not larger.
