A printer (100) for use with a label assembly (102) having a liner and a plurality of labels. The printer may include a peeling edge (132), a drive subassembly (124), and a manually actuatable peel-selector subassembly (128). The drive subassembly may be configured to move the label assembly through the printer and over the peeling edge. The peel-selector subassembly may be configured to enable a user to manually select between a non-peel mode and a peel mode. In a non-peel mode, the label assembly is moved over the peeling edge with the labels are attached to the liner; that is, labels are not removed from the liner while being dispensed from the printer. In a peel mode, the label assembly is moved over the peeling edge so that the labels are separated or peeled away from the liner.
