<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component mounting head that can efficiently and highly accurately make moving actions and can improve the productivity of component mounting. <P>SOLUTION: A component holding member and an elevating/lowering device 50 are positioned so that the positional relation between their supporting centers S and T in a direction roughly along the surface of a substrate may become such a relation that the distance L1 between the fixed center J of a supporting member 40 to a moving device, and the supporting center T of the elevating/lowering device 50 becomes shorter than the distance L2 between the fixed center J of the supporting member 40 and the supporting center S of the component holding member. Therefore, the moment generated as a thrust is generated can be reduced by disposing the elevating/lowering device 50 which generates a large thrust when the component mounting head is driven nearer to the fixed center of the supporting member 40.
