PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polylactic acid-based hydrophilic fiber having sufficient water absorption and moisture-absorbing and releasing properties derived from a hydroxy group while being a synthetic fiber, usable in various kinds of applications, and not requiring incineration or the disposal as an industrial waste at the disposal after use because of having biodegradability. SOLUTION: The polylactic acid-based hydrophilic fiber comprises a polylactic acid-based resin containing a modified polyvinyl alcohol resin. The polylactic acid-based hydrophilic fiber is a core-sheath type conjugate fiber in which the core part or the sheath part comprises the polylactic acid-based resin containing the modified polyvinyl alcohol resin.
