PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external preparation which is used for the skin and contains a vitamin K hydroquinonecarboxylate having an excellent bleaching effect and capable of being widely compounded in preparations or its salt. SOLUTION: This external preparation which is used for the skins and contains at least one of a compound represented by general formula (1) [R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each H, or a nitrogen-substituted group-having carboxylic acid residue selected from the residues of an amino acid, an N-acylamino acid, an N-alkylamino acid, an N,N-dialkylamino acid, a pyridinecarboxylic acid and their salts, at least one of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>is the above-mentioned carboxylic acid residue; R<SP>3</SP>is H or a group represented by general formula (2) or (3); (n) is an integer of 1 to 14] or its salt.
