A method of manufacturing a cordierite porous body of the present invention is a method of manufacturing the cordierite porous body using a cordierite forming material including an Al source, an Si source, and an Mg source and forming cordierite by firing, characterized in that an inorganic micro balloon containing SiO<SUB>2 </SUB>and Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3 </SUB>is used as a part or all of the Al source and the Si source, so that a high-open-porosity cordierite porous body having an extremely low possibility of generating defects causing leakage of a fluid, such as cuts can be manufactured.
