<p>The invention is to provide a biological member and an artificial joint using the same exhibiting high strength, high toughness and high hardness, and additionally, high resistance to abrasion also in a circumstance in vivo. This biological member uses a composite ceramic characterized in that it contains 65 mass % or more of Al2O3, 4 to 34 mass % of ZrO2 and 0.1 to 4 mass % of SrO, and a part of said ZrO2 particles forms a solid solution with Sr. Furthermore, the composite ceramic contains TiO2, MgO and SiO2 as sintering auxiliaries, wherein the contents of TiO2, MgO and SiO2 are 0.20 mass % or more, 0.22 mass % or more and 0.12 mass % or more, respectively, with the proviso that the sum of the contents of SiO2, MgO and TiO2 is 0.6 to 4.5 mass %.</p> |
