<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating variable displacement compressor, in which (1) an oversize filter is installed as a separate part from a control valve in order to sufficiently develop the filter function, (2) in this case, an extra filter-installation space is not necessary, and (3) foreign matters are removed without allowing them to dwell in a fixed orifice, even in configuration having a discharge chamber and a suction chamber arranged in a rear housing. <P>SOLUTION: In the reciprocating variable displacement compressor 1, an in-shaft passage 50 partly constituting a refrigerant path is provided axially along a drive shaft 17, a through hole 42 is provided in a valve plate 12, and a hollow 46 partly constituting the refrigerant path is provided in a cylinder block 11 having one end of the drive shaft 17 installed so as to communicate with one end of the in-shaft passage 50 and the through hole 42.
