<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate transfer system for avoiding residual toner which successively has remained on the surface of an intermediate transfer belt, by stably performing cleaning of the intermediate transfer belt, and to provide a method of cleaning the intermediate transfer belt. <P>SOLUTION: A cleaning blade 91 for removing the residual toner left on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7, after secondary transfer, is movably and integrally supported by a tension roller 74. When the tension roller 74 is moved which should make the tension of the intermediate transfer belt 7 constant, the cleaning blade 91 is moved to follow this. Thereby a contact state with respect to the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7 of the cleaning blade 91 is maintained fixed, and the intermediate transfer belt 7 can be cleaned stably. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
