PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor capable of suppressing the deterioration of a first electrode by reducing the disappearance of carbon.
SOLUTION: Gas components in a fuel electrode of PEFC mainly comprises hydrogen and steam, and this gas sensor is temporarily exposed to the air. In this case, if a pump voltage applied to the middle between the first electrode 5 and the second electrode 7 is high, oxygen generated by decomposition of steam is reacted with carbon in the first electrode to generate carbon dioxide. Hereby, the carbon which is a component of the electrode disappears gradually. The disappearing quantity of the carbon becomes large in proportion to the applied pump voltage. Accordingly, the pump voltage is set lower than hitherto, for example, in the range of 100-180 mV. Hereby, even when the atmosphere or the like is introduced to the fuel electrode of the PEFC, disappearance of the carbon in the first electrode 5 is suppressed, and deterioration of the first electrode 5 can be prevented.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
