PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polybenzazole fiber having a specific fiber fine structure comprising defect-free structure and causing little lowering of strength even by the exposure to a high-temperature and high-humidity environment for a long period in the production of the polybenzazole fiber. SOLUTION: The polybenzazole fiber has a structure containing an additive such as perinones/perylenes, phthalocyanines, quinacridones, dioxanes, porphyrins, etc., arranged in a finely dispersed state along the polybenzazole molecule. The fiber exhibits a layer line X-ray scattering pattern originated from the regular arrangement of the additive molecules along the fiber axis of the polybenzazole fiber on the meridian circle of the long period of 0.05-5 nm and free from diffraction peaks originated from the additive molecule on the equator line.
